My parents, Jesse and Mae Baldwin, lived in Independence. My Grandmother, Hattie Mae Baldwin, Uncles Dan Baldwin, Ovis, Gailen, Reid, Lake, and Harold along with my Aunts, Dolly, Jolly, Hazel, and Dixie all grew up in and around Fries and Independence. I spent many times roaming the beautiful countryside in that area and always cherished the uniqueness and serenity. Although I only had family connections to the area, Fries and Independence hold the most beautiful memories of all. The people are so special and giving and inviting to outsiders. I remember Mrs. Hines special cake baking and Jack and Abigail Boyer's friendship and folklore. I still visit the Summerfield Church and cemetary where all my beautiful relatives are buried.

After hearing of Fries for a number of years, I recently visited. What a hidden gem in the beautiful mountains!

I'm looking forward to our vacation in August/september. Since my MIL changed the 3rd bedroom to an office, we'll be staying in Fries. I just tried to send a massage to the tourism center to get more informations about fries - but the the mail box is full. Hope they'll empty it
