Located  on  Main Street,  the Community  Center is renowned as the  HUB of activity.
 Live Music,  Dances,  Plays,  Public Swimming  Pool ,  Indoor Gym,  Duck Pin Bowling  Alley,  Weight Room and Game Arcade   The building also houses the Library and Historic Theater.  The Theater is part of the Association that is Spotlighting Virginia's  Historic Theaters.

Fries Town Park
 

 Located at 336 Firehouse Drive on the banks of the New River, the Park is open daily during daylight hours.
The Park has variety of playground equipment, a stage, and a beautiful view of the river. 
Musical events, festivals, and other goings-on are held at the Park during the year,  including  the   Festival by the River every October and the Henry Whitter Festival every May.
The Town Park also adjoins the New River Trail parking area and a public boat landing.
 
Reserve the park for Family Reunions, Office Gatherings, Weddings and Birthday Parties or Company Outings.

Providing horse trails, stables, horse camping and year round access to the Appalachian Trail and Virginia Creeper Trail.

 Enjoy the scenic  Blue  Ridge Mountains  of  Southwestern  Virginia at the Hungry Horse East Equestrian Campground.  Tucked in a valley near Ivanhoe and Fries VA,  Hungry  Horse  East  offers access  to  trail  riding for all skill  levels.




 Enjoy horseback riding hundreds of miles of trails in the mountains of  Southwestern Virginia. Campsites with electrical hook-ups and water, bathhouse,  barn with  78  stalls and tack room at the edge of the Jefferson State Forest.

For  biking,  hiking,  or horseback  riding  this  trail  is unsurpassed.   57 miles of nature and  beauty with a gentle railroad grade and many access points along its' route. 
Fries and Pulaski  runs parallel to the scenic New River. 
Galax runs parallel to Chestnut Creek then merges with the New.  When you traverse the New River Trail from Galax  to  Fries you will enjoy the gentle flowing Chestnut Creek and the Chestnut Falls then travel up the New River  to  Fries.

 



  
From the  Fries  Boat Landing next to the New River Trail head,  look for a variety of waterfowl,  shorebirds,  songbirds, and raptors including ospreys and bald eagles.  Many varieties of wildlife may be seen in the area.
 

 

The Virginia Creeper Trail,  a hiking, biking,  and horseback riding trail that runs  34  miles from Whitetop VA to Damascus then Abingdon with many points along the way.  The Creeper Trail from Whitetop to Damascus is 17miles  (2 1/2-3 hours). 
Damascus to Abingdon is 15 miles. 
Shuttle service is provided for bikes and people up to Whitetop.  
A Helmet is recommended and skill level is for diverse abilities. 
 Elevation:   Whitetop is about  3500 ft . 
 Damascus is about  1900 ft.
