All visitors are welcome to mingle with the local residents who gather for a relaxing evening of old-time music and fellowship. The Fries jams are an affiliated venue on the famous Crooked Road – Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail. \n  \nBring a banjo\, dulcimer\, guitar\, fiddle\, or bass\, and join in the music circle. And there’s dancing all evening. If you don’t know the traditional two-step waltz\, just ask and someone will help. The jams are for all ages. \n  \nDoors open every Thursday at 6 p.m. and the music runs from 7 – 9 p.m. During a break\, around 8 p.m.\, there’s a real cake walk and the winner in this jolly tradition takes home a cake or other baked treat. \n  \nThe jams are free\, but donations are gratefully accepted. Refreshments are available. \n  \nDuring summer months there are occasional Friday night dances scheduled\, featuring the best local bands.

DESCRIPTION:Come explore the historic town of Fries. This walk does have several inclines and declines and is around a mile long. A park guide will share stories of local history and the remains of the once thriving textile industry. Please meet at the Fries Access parking lot\, dress for the weather\, and wear sturdy shoes. Leashed pets are welcome. \nDid you know that every Thursday evening the town of Fries hosts an old-time jam session? Our walk will end at the Historic Fries Theater where there’s a chance to enjoy good ole’ mountain music. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the music runs from 7-9 p.m. The Fries jams are an affiliated venue on the famous Crooked Road – Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail. The jams are free\, but donations are gratefully accepted (the jams are not affiliated with New River Trail State Park). Refreshments are available. Please note\, the two Saturday walks (3/22 & 4/12) are in the afternoon and will not end with mountain music.

DESCRIPTION:Do you feel safer walking with a friend? Want to meet other women who have common interests? Ready to meet your goals and get in a healthy exercise session? Join our Women’s Walking Group as we trek the New River Trail! Meet a ranger for a moderately paced\, brisk\, morning walk at Foster Falls. We will begin at 9 a.m. and meet at the red caboose. The hike will last about one hour and cover nearly 4 miles. Be sure to wear closed toed shoes and bring water to drink. Let’s create a safe space for each other and encourage one another in our goals! \nThe trail surface is crushed stone and a gentle grade. Leashed pets are welcome. This program is weather dependent.
